State of Belief Radio Interview

You've seen the face… Wanna hear the voice?

(Please Note: the broadcast has been archived - it's titled "Had enough of the 24/7 Paris Hilton News Yet?" My interview is the last segment and begins at the 31:00 minute mark.)

As regular readers know, I do like to use humor, but seriously: I was surprised and pleased to receive an invitation from Air America's State of Belief producer Brendan McDonald to be interviewed by host The Rev. Dr. Welton Gaddy about this blog and the upcoming book, Original Faith: Becoming Our Truer Nature.

My interview with State of Belief aired Sat. June 30 at 10 AM EST (7 AM Pacific) and on Sunday 7 PM EST (4 PM Pacific). You can listen to the program online or download the podcast on ITunes. For details, click here.

This was a positive experience for me. Mr. McDonald and Rev. Gaddy set a warm, welcoming tone, and I thought the questions were great.

SUSIEQ, thanks for dropping in. It was quite a surprise. I posted about it asap but the blogosphere timing doesn't happen to be the greatest - Fridays until Sunday PM things slow down. But people will be able to hear it using the link after the weekend winds down.

I keep checking to see if they've updated their site yet. I still haven't heard the interview myself...!

KATHY: You must be puzzled too... It's 11:30 AM. What I heard was myself being introduced, and then a break, and then a replay of the segment that came just before I was introduced!

And I always thought it was 15 seconds of fame, not three...

Seriously, I called them and left a message...

I did like the rest of their show!

VISHESH: Glad you brought that up. Self-promotion does NOT appear anywhere on my list of favorite activities. I love writing and speaking about things that matter to me - that's it.

The thing is, unless people know a book exists they can't read it. So there's no getting around it.

This interview itself was fun to do. However, as per my comment to Kathy above, there's been a glitch...

CRYSTAL, LORETTA, KESHI and MARK, thank you. State of Belief radio and The Interfaith Alliance are organizations I somehow overlooked until I heard from them - I guess because they're not blogs! I really like both - have been listening to some of their programming/looking at their sites... Good progressive outlets, was finding myself sharing their positions on everything I came across like campaign financing and health care.

I'm so glad for you; I think you are one of the most original (to use your title), dare I say, theologicans out there, and I learn from you. I do plan on getting your book--I think you have it on this page. I will download the show tomorrow; I won't be able to get to it today.

ENEMY of the R: Yeah, I'm getting interested in listening to the interview myself! Now I seem to be having a computer problem that's not letting me use windows media player.

When the book's available, which should be this fall, the site will update to show this and how to order so you'll probably catch that. There's also a very short contact form (it basically asks for your email address)that people can click on from my home page if they want to be contacted when the book's available.

Thanks for your interest! I really look forward to the book coming out. On the blog to date, I'm only getting to talk around the things I'd really like to say. When the book comes out, hopefully enough people will read it that between that and maybe posting substantial excerpts, I can direct the blog content more toward the book content.

Oh no! I missed it. I usually have to turn off my progressive station on the weekends because it's all mexican trailer park polka until Monday when the politics start again.
I will look forward to listening when I get home. Good job! =)

TIDALGRRRL, thanks for checking in. If you were able to listen, please let me know! I still haven't heard the interview online - I think maybe a technical glitch with their archive that may be taking a while to resolve due to the long holiday weekend...

HAZZBUZZ: If you click on the "click here" link on this post then on Archives at the top of their page, you can definitely see June 30 and July 1 and mention of my blog. But as I said to Tidalgrrrl just above your comment, there seems to be a glitch for now...

Fame and fortune can be difficult. I guess I can commiserate more with Paris Hilton now.

....so, not so unusual....I missed it.
'Course, living in Indiana, it may not have aired here. This is like a throwback state, fer sure.
Thrown back to medieval times, that is.

SHE: Me too... I'm having a computer problem, or maybe more than one, that's giving me two technical difficulties, one of which has kept me from hearing the interview myself! Thanks for stopping by. Like your "makeover" and glad to see you blogging.

Before that everyone was singing:

"Why am I standing here
Missing her and wishing
She were here - "

She, The Monkees, sung by Mickey Dolenz... 1967?

(I've got a million of 'em, just ask any family member... I still say I have a good voice, but apparently it only works if you benefit from the acoustics of my cranium. It is this alone which kept me from a career in music.)

"Sing... sing a song...
Make it simple to last your
Whole life loooooong -
Don't worry if it's not good enough
For anyone else to hear...
Just sing...
Sing a song."

- Karen Carpenter, some really annoying song apparently called "Sing a Song."

The worst part of the whole thing is probably that I even remember lyrics and jingles that I don't like and am willing to sing them.

But I digress...

BONEMAN: But you're talking to someone who grew up in "Cowhampshire." It's true however, that most of the cows have since been replaced by people from Mass who you can identify from fall until spring because they don't seem to buy the plaid jacket.
