Spirit of Vastness

Disappear until you become nothing but yourself in the eyes of God. Raise up the low places, level down the high. Foremost and first, become the inverse of who you once took yourself to be first and foremost. Comprehend, like the ocean, sky, or the land ages before people claimed and divided it, the elemental self-unimportance of discovering that you are not great, but vast.

VISHESH, PAULINE, N2: Glad this brief post conveys something to you. It's taken out of context and comes from material that was edited out of the book so I hesitated posting it - and would understand if people felt I was being vastly unspecific here!

but unspecificity is fascinating - and bewitching, and so much closer to what I am able to accept...glad you finally decided to post it. Why did you edit it out of your book?

How can I disappear to emerge nothing but myself?

PAULINE: The answer to that question is interesting, bookishly speaking. I wonder if I should make the next post - bookish.

I've been out straight the last week and a half and have not been online much but do plan to keep posting even though it may be a week or so before I come out from under.

In brief and in part: it didn't quite fit anywhere.

LADY LUXIE: "How can I disappear to emerge nothing but myself?" That's such a great way to put it.

It's possible that I could combine answers to your question and Pauline's above and it would make for a post...

As per my reply to Pauline, not sure I'll have time to do that for a week or so and may have to copy and paste further preexisting material for upcoming posts.

For now I'll just say the idea/experience I'm pointing to in this post isn't new: "Everyone who seeks his life will lose it and everyone who loses his life will find it" - something like that (Jesus in the New Testament). And there's a whole lot of this kind of thing in eastern religions and western contemplative traditions - but I think it's often misunderstood.

Thanks for a great question, hope to get back to it in a post in a week or so.

MISTIPURPLE: I think you're right about that even on a literal level. Where is N2 when you need him?

Paul, glad you stopped by my blog, Glittering Muse. I like what you're doing here. I'll check back in time.

The ironic idea of feeling meaningful by dissolving into the vastness of the universe is a repeat theme of my thinking and poetry. For me there is release from ego in noticing how "small" I am in the powerful, infinite universe. I know this isn't what you're saying here, but it's only a small step to say, "I may feel small, but that universe is me!punker484493"

take care,
David

GARNET D: What you mention here as a theme for you strikes me as compatible with contemplative religious traditions as well as a good deal of poetry - I think of nature poets in particular.

I look forward to stopping by at your blog again.

PS Did you know that clicking on your icon doesn't provide a link to your blog? I googled to find your URL since I'd lost track and must have clicked onto your site from another one.
