Blessed Are Those Who Don't Care Much?

God created us to be a short-lived species that would die choking on its waste products while snuffing out numerous other life forms along the way. This was to usher in an end-time that will see a loving Messiah sail in on a (greenhouse gas) cloud to rescue us from the mess we got ourselves into because we didn’t love one another all that much.

I don’t know…

As a species we’re brand-new. It’s hard for me to believe that we weren’t intended to participate in creation rather than self-destruct. At this point, this would require shifting gears.

When Homo sapiens was a small group of primates trying to survive in an all-wild world, boundless greed along with a limited aptitude for cooperation and caring about each other is what allowed us to survive and flourish. But from here on out, we need greater cooperation than ever before and an enhanced social consciousness that includes caring about future generations beyond the stretch of our own lifetimes – along with the ability to recognize and reign in our grasping and hoarding tendencies.

I wonder if we’re up to the challenge. In any case, the jungle we now have to negotiate contains a lot more people than trees, with the disparity growing every day.

I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news,
But she just smiled and turned away.

For starters, I don't think we were created. I can't disprove it, of course, it's just a personal thought choice. So when you say, "It’s hard for me to believe that we weren’t intended to participate in creation rather than self-destruct" I can't help but wonder who or what you think intended us to participate? Could it be that the ability to ignore the possibility of our own destruction at our own hand by being uncooperative is some fail-safe method to keep our population numbers viable, a sort of built-in regulator? It's interesting where your thoughts lead me...

Pauline - Yes, the situation is bound to come into some sort of new balance - one way or another. There's finally no escaping the fact that the earth is our own habitat and we're part of nature.

For me the word creation doesn't necessarily imply a Creator made in the image of ourselves or vice versa. It refers to the kind of dynamic, messy, and yet order-forging process that managed to bring us into being, however it happened.

Your definition of creation is interesting. The word comes from the late 14th century, from the Latin creatus, the past participle of creare, "to make, produce," related to crescere "arise, grow." I like your definition better than the dictionary one which refers back to the creation of earth by "God." Thanks :)

i think the title is apt. at least for me.
caring leads to a whole lot of unnecessary stress.
i wonder what was god like during the dinosaur age? oh wait, dinosaurs and adam and eve don't quite match.
what led to that was my sudden thought that if i were a cave woman, i might still share my piece of meat with my neighbors, er, not my man i mean. i wonder if mankind were that selfish then too.

There needs to be trust in order for there to be cooperation. Trust has to be earned. Deception in any form will destroy trust.

I wish there were easy solutions to the problems that confront us in this modern world. But alas.

I wonder a lot about creation - if the way things are was planned by God or if it's as much a surprise to him as to me or, of course, if there was no creator at all. If he planeed all this, he must have some serious issues :) I don't have much confidence that we'll fix things before it's too late.

Hi Paul .. my thoughts are with you, be calm and at peace ..

Now - however we are and however we believe or not - we still need to pull together for ourselves as humans, for the flora and fauna of this world .. to at least help ourselves .. are we addicted to hate, negative and destroying this wonderful world? .. - we can all help by smiling, helping others in more trying circumstances at this time .. and in the future ..

Enjoy the time with your family and relish every possible moment - blessings to you ..

I think the energy is shifting, Paul, and we're coming together again. Light workers are uniting at record pace, and will set the tone for how the next 100 years will go. I have a feeling we'll see a resurgence of "community" in the coming years, as we learn to act from a place of Oneness and divine love more than ever before.

As I understand it industry, far more than private households and cars, is the major emitter of greenhouse gases. So for public awareness to have a chance at making much of an impact, it seems to me that it would need to be less about switching to green brands and more about the sort of protests that happened in the US during the Vietnam anti-war and civil rights movements - the kind of thing that makes politicians realize that if they want to get elected they'd better act.

That kind of large-scale impassioned idealism put into action to make a real-life difference – somehow our culture just doesn’t look capable of that at this point, at least not in the US, and hasn’t since I’d say the mid seventies.

I'd like nothing better than to be proven wrong over the coming decades.

Well, using your example... I don't think there was much hint that we could muster the protests of the 70's back in the 60's! Turning points/tipping points are notoriously unpredictable.

It's really not possible to know, is it? I prefer to behave as if it's possible, and to maintain a certain serenity about the future.... while realizing that the future is always unknowable.

but then, I'm also weird enough to not care really deeply, and I don't know how to explain that. I'm not specist enough, I guess! I think *creation* will continue, whether or not our species does, and that comforts me.

Hayden - Me too - that is, on one level I care a great deal but at another I feel peace that's independent of whether or not humans mess up.

As human bodies, there is no reason to believe we will survive or not survive. Dinosaurs lived 200 times longer than homo sapiens and then became extinct, but we can also say they didn't become extinct, they just turned into birds. There's no way to know how phenomena will unfold. To use your word, there is no reason, except emotional ones, to believe human beings are or are not part of direct creation.

Consciousness always just is.

Megan, I agree with you--and I do feel that the changes you are describing are happening, even as the negativity and selfishness in the world are becoming very obvious!
It feels to me that we are at a crossroads, now, at this time on earth.

(and yes, we ARE lightworkers, even though Paul doesn't believe in such things...!)

And Tuti, you are so funny!!

Paul, thank you for saying that, it's precisely what I was struggling for. It feels odd to care a great deal but --- also ---not.
